List: Top 50 N.C. churches that gave to Lottie Moon in 2017
December 13 2018 by Biblical Recorder Staff

Below is a list of 50 North Carolina churches that gave the largest gifts to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions (LMCO) from Jan. 1, 2017, through Dec. 31, 2017. The data was provided by the business services office of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, which sent LMCO gifts directly to the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee.

In past years, the Biblical Recorder has published a national ranking and a ranking based on per capita giving, but that information was not available due to changes in personnel and data management systems at the International Mission Board (IMB). Churches that sent gifts directly to the IMB are not included in this list. The data presented below may not be consistent with each church’s reported giving in 2017, due to differences in reporting dates, gifts submitted after the offering’s yearly cutoff date or other factors.

The image below is taken from the Dec. 15 print edition of the Recorder.

The widow gave all she had and that was what Jesus recognized. This list honors the churches that gave the most but misses the most important aspect of the gifts. Like King David taking a census, it relies upon a business model rather than a spiritual model. For what purpose do we need to know these figures? How does this encourage the smaller churches to give? What would Jesus do?
