Mt. Vernon Baptist Church (MVBC) in Raleigh, N.C., is seeking our next Director of Facilities Maintenance. This person will be responsible for contributing towards the execution of the vision of MVBC “to be a caring community of disciple-makers proclaiming Christ at every opportunity” through the maintenance of the physical campus. Because the MVBC campus hosts Neuse Christian Academy and The Growing Place preschool, the ideal candidate for this position will enjoy working in an active and collaborative ministry environment while assisting with the operational aspects that help these ministries function smoothly. This position is currently structured as a full-time position reporting to the Associate Pastor, but the position could also be structured as part-time position depending on candidate qualifications and availability. Position Summary
  Summary of Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and/or perform maintenance, repairs, or improvements that are being implemented to the facilities
  • Responsible for communicating with contractors, servicing companies, inspectors, and suppliers regarding maintenance of the church facilities and the status of any pending or ongoing projects
  • Assist the Associate Pastor in oversight of service crews for the church facilities, including those responsible for the regular cleaning, beautification, and sanitation of the building and grounds.
  • Some basic janitorial tasks as needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Senior Pastor or the Associate Pastor which are consistent with the overall mission of the church
Summary of Expectations:
  • A track record of general maintenance skills in the areas of electrical, plumbing, painting, drywall, carpentry, hardware and assembly, doors, etc. is preferred
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and when needed take the initiative to shift from task-to-task as priorities change
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts while communicating in a professional, clear and courteous manner with other church and school staff
  • Ability to meet the demands of an active, physical work environment; should be capable of walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular, recurring basis
