The Kentucky Baptist Convention Administrative Committee appointed Curtis Woods, left, associate executive director for convention relations, and Jim Donnell, associate executive director for convention operations, to serve as co-interim executive directors.

Chitwood was selected as the new president of the International Mission Board (IMB) Nov. 15.

The KBC Administrative Committee appointed Curtis Woods, associate executive director for convention relations, and Jim Donnell, associate executive director for convention operations, to serve as co-interim executive directors.

“These men are strong leaders who will keep KBC running well in the interim,” said administrative committee chairman Dan Summerlin, pastor of Lone Oak First Baptist Church in Paducah. “They know the inner workings of KBC well, and we felt fortunate to have such qualified and gifted men available to step in until the search for a new executive director is completed.”

A 15-member search team, representing every region of the state, has been appointed to find Chitwood’s replacement.

Tom James, pastor of Eastwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green, will serve as chairman of the team. Other members are:

  • Tim Searcy, KBC president and pastor of Allen Baptist Church, Prestonsburg

  • Wes Fowler, pastor of First Baptist Church, Mayfield

  • John Birchett, pastor of Edgewood Baptist Church, Hopkinsville

  • Nate Bishop, pastor of Forest Baptist Church, Louisville

  • Harold Best, pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church, Lancaster

  • Nick Sandefur, pastor of Porter Memorial Baptist Church, Lexington

  • Ray Woodie, pastor at Coral Hill Baptist Church, Glasgow

  • Anibal Figueroa, pastor and church planter of New Dawn (Nuevo Amanecer) Church, Louisville

  • Stan Lowery, director of missions of the Nelson Baptist Association

  • George Drake, associational mission strategist for the Red River Baptist Association

  • Garnetta Smith, director of the Center for Student Success at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

  • Chip Hutcheson, retired publisher of the Times Leader in Princeton and former KBC president
