|Honor our veterans|
Veterans Day is a time to honor all who have served the United States of America in one of our branches of the military. Nov. 11 is reserved annually for this remembrance.
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations took effect. One year later on Nov. 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time. President Wilson said the day should be "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory."
My father was a U.S. Marine who served in the Pacific theater during World War II. I hold him in high honor for many reasons, including his military service. His veteran status gave me a sensitivity and appreciation for other veterans, also.
It is encouraging to see how some churches are uniquely ministering to our veterans. These men and women are the real heroes of our country. Many paid the ultimate price by giving their lives to purchase our freedoms. Other veterans bravely and sacrificially served our nation, but survived the dangers of war. We are thankful for each one!
Please go out of your way to say "Thank you" to a veteran this week and any other time you have the opportunity. These great men and women deserve our appreciation.
