Guest column: Mental health & the Newtown tragedy
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | 'Stunned and grieved' Last weekend’s horrible tragedy in Connecticut seemed to slow Christmas celebrations abruptly. Apart from the 9-11 terrorist attack, probably no single event in my lifetime has broken our hearts more than the senseless deaths of 27 children and adults in Newtown last Friday. We are stunned and grieved. Many have shared some healthy comments in blogs and articles, so I will not attempt to add to those in this brief note. I hope you are reading the blogs and commentary on the BRnow website. Pray for hurting families. Pray that all of us will respond in wisdom and compassion as we evaluate the multitude of responses offered by people from every walk of life. Remember the first verse of the first Psalm warns us to listen to the advice of the godly, not the counsel of the ungodly. So be discerning with regard to whom you hear and in how you respond. The BRweekly will not be sent to you next Wednesday. All of us at the Biblical Recorder wish you and your family a very merry Christmas. Celebrate the one who is our only hope. And, give generously to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering so that all may hear about the Savior and trust Him. Email me: [email protected] |
