K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Ordinary people God has deliberately chosen to accomplish His work on earth through common people like you and me. He selected Abraham for a special assignment. He chose Moses, Joseph, Gideon, David and Solomon for special tasks. Jesus hand-picked twelve men to be His disciples. They turned the world upside down. Have you ever been stricken with the wonder of how and why God chooses ordinary people to do extraordinary work? I love the way the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to address this subject, "For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, ... that no flesh should glory in His presence" (I Corinthians 1:26-29). Wow! What an incredible principle! God uses us! But He does not conduct an "American Idol" talent search when He looks for the right person. Instead, he simply calls people like you and me to complete His assignments. I thought about this principle as I read the story, "January 31 deadline for BSC Nominations." There are many Baptists in our churches who would be a great blessing to kingdom work through their service on one of the convention’s boards or committees. I hope you will take time to nominate some in your circle of friends. God may want to use you to call out some great future leaders.
