K. Allan Blume BR Editor | LifeWay’s Thom Rainer posted a very interesting list of Southern Baptists’ largest churches in his January 26 blog. In this week’s Biblical Recorder I published the North Carolina churches on Rainer’s list and shared some comments about the numbers. Numbers from one aspect of church life never tell the whole story. But, there is always something to glean from such lists. Read the story and share your comments at the bottom of the story. Speaking of numbers, 99 is a pretty good number when you’re talking about life. M.O. Owens is still actively preaching at age 99. In 1925 he traveled with his family to Memphis, Tenn., so that his father, a South Carolina pastor, could cast his vote for the creation of Southern Baptists’ Cooperative Program (CP). CP Sunday is April 14. Many in Baptist churches do not know enough about the effective work covered by CP – international missions, North American missions, seminary training, children’s homes, church planting and so much more! This is a great time to let them know how much kingdom work can be done by working together through CP gifts. Don’t miss Shawn Hendricks' story about the special ministries of churches like Rich Fork Baptist in Thomasville. Their example of ministry is worth following. Autism is one of many special needs that some families face and churches must address. Equally powerful is the testimony of an autistic child who became a missionary to Japan. It sounds unbelievable, but this powerful testimony is a must read! Be blessed and encouraged as you read the Biblical Recorder! Email me: [email protected] |
