Reflections on Milton Hollifield's retirement announcement

As you can see from our headline story in this week's newsletter, Milton Hollifield announced plans yesterday to retire in February 2021. I'd like to share a few thoughts with you about this news.

In short, it is hard for me to overstate my gratitude for Milton Hollifield's leadership.

When he told me about the pending announcement, I immediately felt a mix of emotions. First, even though it's still nine months away, I was sad to think of him stepping away from the leadership position. He is deeply respected in North Carolina and beyond as a godly and reasonable voice. We need leaders like him right now.

Then I felt a sense of joy that we get to celebrate with a leader who has run the race faithfully. Far too often in the news business, we have to report ministry departures amid scandal and controversy – but not this time. We get the privilege of rejoicing in a legacy of gospel ministry and godly character. I'm grateful for that.

The BR staff looks forward to continuing alongside the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina during this transition to help churches work together to make disciples of all nations.
