Baptist associations: A valuable partner in ministry
#SBC19: A year's vision recapped
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Cooperation releases incredible resources In the wake of reports about declining churches and decreasing church attendance, one of the more encouraging signs I see in Baptist life is the growing strength within local associations. Monday night I preached for the spring gathering of the Buncombe Baptist Association. Perry Brindley, director of missions, (a.k.a. associational mission strategist) shared his excitement about the many ministries that have grown out of this partnership of churches in the greater Asheville area. I am impressed with their cooperative ministries and outreach. The messengers assembled in the facilities of Enka Baptist Church where Chris Reese serves as pastor. Jeff Dowdy, pastor of Swannanoa First Baptist Church, is the association's moderator. The worship was exciting, the reports were encouraging and the fellowship was outstanding. I commend the partnering church leaders in Buncombe for their faithful commitment to impact lostness in their communities. Cooperation releases incredible resources! Speaking of Baptist associations, did you read Milton Hollifield’s column about associational missions in this week’s printed edition of the Biblical Recorder? I hope your church is connected to sister churches in your area through a vital associational ministry. Don’t look at associational partnerships as an “old” way of doing ministry. It is actually a “new” way of doing Great Commission partnerships locally and internationally! Does your church have a group subscription plan with the Biblical Recorder? I strongly believe church leaders are strengthened in their vision, service, generosity and support of the church when they are reading the Biblical Recorder regularly. Try it!
