K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Elizabeth Baptist's flag raising goes viral Last week the Biblical Recorder was the first to publish a story about Elizabeth Baptist Church's July 5th flag raising service. Pastor Rit Varriale led the church to install their first-ever flagpole and hoist the Christian flag above the American flag. Before last Sunday's event in Shelby, three television stations in Charlotte reported the story. Some invited Pastor Varriale to appear live in an interview format. Baptist Press picked up the story Monday along with many newspapers across the country. By Monday night the story was viral on the Internet. Varriale was interviewed by Elisabeth Hasselbeck live on "Fox and Friends" Tuesday morning. I believe the story will continue to spread across the country. Pray for Varriale and the fellowship of believers at our sister church, Elizabeth Baptist. National attention like this motivates the worst "crazies" to come out of the woodwork, spewing hatred and launching vicious attacks on believers. Russell Moore has given us the positive side of the U.S. Supreme Court's very dismal ruling on marriage. Read his comments in this interesting story on BRnow.org. He said the end result highlights the distinctiveness of Christians in the world. Sadly, we have become a weak, watered-down church with little "saltiness" to influence the world with eternal truth. Pray for genuine revival to fall on us. We need a spiritual awakening like none we have ever seen before! Thank you for your support of the Biblical Recorder and this weekly newsletter, the BRweekly!
