GuideStone declares 2016 'year of influence'
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Kingdom ministry in N.C. My schedule in the past week gave me a close look at the amazing breadth of kingdom ministry North Carolina Baptists are doing. I traveled across the state in four different cities. Last Tuesday night I joined Milton Hollifield, Chuck Register and other N.C. Baptist leaders to honor Southern Baptist missionaries who took the Voluntary Retirement Incentive that the International Mission Board offered last year. The dinner meeting at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem was a strong statement of encouragement and support for our missionaries. Watch for a news story about this event soon. Last Thursday I was the guest teacher for Fruitland Baptist Bible College students who study at the Rockingham extension center in Roberdel Baptist Church. Bill Mackey coordinates this equipping ministry for several dozen students. These men and women are hungry to grow and serve on the front lines of church ministry. I thank God for Fruitland and the students who attend this great school! Friday through Sunday I was the teacher for a Lay Renewal Weekend at Front Street Baptist in Statesville. Bob and Phyllis Foy lead these powerful weekends in churches across the Southern Baptist Convention with volunteers from many other churches. Pastor Tim Stutts and the Front Street church are doing a lot of great ministry in their community and around the world. I was very blessed to spend these three days with such a sweet-spirited fellowship. Monday evening, my wife (Pam) and I led breakout sessions at Newbridge Baptist Church in Asheville for church leaders in the Buncombe Baptist Association. Perry Brindley, director of missions, along with his staff and associational leaders held a one night equipping event with breakouts for evangelism, women’s ministry, children’s ministry and so much more. It is very encouraging to see churches working together in this association to impact lostness in their neighborhoods. Information is rolling out on the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, June 13-14. This week convention president Ronnie Floyd announced his appointees to the Committee on Committees. Two candidates have announced for the presidency of the convention. A lot more news is forthcoming. Read all of it in the Biblical Recorder, on BRnow.org and in the BRweekly! Have a happy St. Patrick’s Day! |
