K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Heritage Awards The annual North Carolina Baptist Heritage Awards luncheon was Tuesday (April 26) in Greensboro. The N.C. Baptist Foundation organizes and sponsors this special time to honor men and women who have contributed to the value of Baptist-related ministries, including schools, auxiliaries and entities in the state, through their service and generosity. The full list of honorees will be published in the next print edition of the Biblical Recorder and posted on BRnow.org soon. The Biblical Recorder is pleased to honor Greg Mathis this year. He has served as the pastor of Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville for 36 years and taught evangelism at Fruitland Baptist Bible College for 35 years. Twenty years ago he was president of the Baptist State Convention of N.C. at a time when there was much division between moderates and conservatives. Mathis is a skillful leader. He served all N.C. Baptists with wisdom, compassion and grace. I believe it will be recorded in Baptist history that he was one of the top two or three key leaders who shaped the present course of the state convention. Mathis has been a strong supporter of the Biblical Recorder. He has led Mud Creek Church to support the Recorder financially and with one of the largest group subscription plans in the state. Thank you Greg Mathis for all you have done and continue to do to honor God, faithfully preach the Word and to be a godly leader! The Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in St. Louis is beginning to take shape. As announcements and related news is available, we will keep you informed. Be sure to read this story about the meeting and news about committee appointments, candidates for office and special events. Pray for those who will meet in St. Louis. Pray that God will be glorified as we seek Him.
