K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Celebrate special times Sunday, May 22 was a very special day for me and my wife, Pam. We worshiped at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Boone, where I pastored for more than 16 years prior to becoming editor of the Biblical Recorder. Pastor Greg Heisler asked me to preach as part of a series of Sunday services to celebrate the church’s 150th anniversary. More than 800 people gathered in three morning worship services. Terry Smith, who served as the minister of music with me at the church, led us with outstanding music and a great music team. Terry now serves as minister of music at Old Town Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, with senior pastor Rick Speas. I cannot describe the great joy of reconnecting with so many special friends during this meaningful day. Also, it was five years to the day that I concluded my ministry at the church. That is the longest time I have served a church -- a time that we enjoyed growing in the Word with some of the best people on earth. So five years ago today, May 25, I began serving as the editor of your Biblical Recorder. This is something I never imagined I would do, and I never wanted to do. But Pam and I have thoroughly enjoyed this ministry. It is such a privilege work with so many outstanding North Carolina Baptists. This month also marks the 50th anniversary of my call to ministry. As a teenager I felt a strong call from God to preach the gospel and serve in any way He wanted to use me. I have served as a youth evangelist, a youth minister, a minister of evangelism, a pastor of a small church, the executive pastor of one of our largest churches, a pastor in Boone and now an editor – which includes preaching in churches, associational meetings, training conferences, seminars and more. I am very blessed and give God the glory for His grace and faithfulness. Thank you for allowing me to share these special moments with you today. As always, your Biblical Recorder staff is working hard to keep you informed with news and information from a biblical worldview. We pray that the news and information we provide will edify your life. People need to know! Email me: [email protected] Follow me on Twitter Follow the Biblical Recorder on Twitter |
