K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Associations are valuable The five primary earthly components of Kingdom work – as Baptists do it – are believers, churches, associations, state conventions and the national convention. Believers need fellowship and accountability, thus the essential role of the church. Churches cannot win their community to Christ alone, hence the birth of the association. Neither can a local church reach the state, nation or world with the gospel, so the state and national conventions are valuable to our ministry. Most Baptist associations are fueled by small to mid-sized churches. These churches have learned the value of teamwork in sharing the gospel. The fellowship and partnership of the local association produce rich experiences and treasured resources for Kingdom work. I served more than 35 years in the local church ministry in four associations. I supported and participated in the ministries of these associations. I am thankful for the value they added to my personal walk with God and to the churches I served. The networking ingredient was priceless to me. This is the season for associational annual and semi-annual meetings. Support the ministries of your association and your associational leadership. Also, you’ll want to read this insightful, 3-part blog titled "The Future of the Baptist Association" by Joel Rainey, the director of missions for the Mid-Maryland Baptist Association. He has some great thoughts for your consideration. Give generously to support NCMO. A portion of your gifts will bless associations in our state.
