Dave Miller: 'Thank you, N.C. Baptists'
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Celebrate religious liberty As I promised in last week’s BRweekly, this week’s edition of the Biblical Recorder is packed with news about the recent Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Phoenix. Some of our readers have been following the news as we post it daily on BRnow.org. However, please do not make the mistake of believing that everyone consumes news the way you consume news. They do not! Many of your fellow church members will read about the Phoenix convention for the first time when they receive the printed copy of the Recorder in the mail. I hope your church is making the print edition available to the whole church family. That’s the reason we offer many different formats that circulate news and information to all North Carolina Baptists. Each format is valued differently by each reader. That’s good! Some will never read the print; some will only read the print. Some depend on the Internet for their news. Some will never visit the Internet. The main concern is that our church members get the news from a dependable news source with a biblical world view rather than depending entirely on the secular slant of most news sources. As I stated in my brief editorial this week, I want to be sure you hear the voices of many other trustworthy Baptist leaders. So my comments were brief. Please do not miss Dave Miller’s letter of thanks to N.C. Baptists. In order to add an important perspective to your celebration of July 4th, retired Army chaplain Doug Carver contributed an article that is a ‘must read’ this week. It is found on page 3 of the print edition. It will be posted on BRnow.org Wednesday. Also, if you missed “The Price of Freedom” poster on the back cover (page 16) of the June 17 issue, please go back and read it. Post it in your church or, if allowed, display it in your office. You have this poster because we have freedom of the press in America. Appreciate this freedom generously, before it slips from our grasp! Have a very safe and happy celebration of our nation’s birthday and the religious liberties we enjoy in this land. Pray for those who struggle in countries where such liberties are illegal.
