Christian movie releases on March 16
Recently I interviewed movie producer Andy Erwin. It was one of my most captivating interviews in recent years. Andy and his brother, Jon, produced a movie that tells the story about Bart Millard, a singer with MercyMe and the writer of the hit song, “I Can Only Imagine.” Please read the story in this week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder and online.
Erwin shared a lot with me that did not fit in the word limit of the posted story. For example, he asked our readers to pray in specific ways for the film, so I want to share that with you here.
He said, “I want your readers to get a vision of what God can do through this film. Think about a lost coworker or friend. This movie is not just for Christians to enjoy. Take a lost coworker or friend with you, and plan for time after the movie to talk and answer the questions they may have about the message of hope.
“Second, pray that God moves in a special way. That opening weekend is really important and we need prayer that the Lord does what He wants to do and that it will be an opportunity for a lot of people to come to Christ.”
The Erwin brothers are very excited about the date of the movie’s release, March 16 – that’s 3/16, numbers that remind us of the core message of the Bible, John 3:16. Plan to see the movie and take some friends with you. The story is powerful!
I’m sending this article to you from Israel this week, where I am traveling with 32 pastors, directors of missions and other Baptist leaders from North Carolina. The group is led by Steve Scoggins, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville. As you would expect, we’re visiting sites where much of the biblical text was experienced and written. If you’ve been there, you understand the powerful lessons our group is gleaning from a visit to the Holy Land.
With apologies and a sense of embarrassment, I want to give you a correction from last week’s BRweekly. I erroneously identified pastor Bob Weathers with the wrong church. He is the pastor of First Baptist Church of Shallotte. I apologize for the mistake with the note that not one of the sweet people from that church complained. Another reader called attention to the error very soon after the e-newsletter went out.
Thank you for allowing the Biblical Recorder to be your news source.
