K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Churches: some living, some dying I enjoy preaching and representing the Biblical Recorder in our churches across the state. Sunday I filled in for Pastor Josh Hughes at Beech Glen Baptist Church in Mars Hill while he was out of town for a preaching commitment. This beautiful, quiet community has a church that is alive and glorifying God through many mission and ministry projects. A young man responded to the invitation and gave his life to Jesus Sunday morning. Pastor Josh is looking forward to baptizing this new believer and beginning the disciple-making journey with him. God is working in many of our small churches. Monday night I preached for the Liberty Baptist Association where Mike Ester serves as the director of missions. The meeting was held in the facilities of Reeds Baptist Church in Lexington. I shared with pastor Henry Waterson that Reeds has the largest Biblical Recorder group subscription plan in the association. Thank you, Reeds church family! Does your church have a group subscription plan with the Recorder? You get the best price and your leaders get news and information with a biblical worldview. That’s valuable to any pastor who wants to grow a mission-focused, evangelistic, disciple-making church! In this week’s editorial I shared some of my burden for the many churches that are stagnant, dying, struggling through conflict and closing their doors. The weekend newspaper of one of our large cities carried a front-page story of one of our Baptist churches that once had 1,000 people in attendance but has closed its doors. That’s so sad. Please don’t let it happen to your church. The best way I know for a church to stay alive and prevent conflict is to stay on our knees in prayer. One of the stories in this week’s printed Biblical Recorder and online is about the 30 days of prayer that began Sunday. Please read the story and join your brothers and sisters in serious prayer! Look at this announcement below. We have some special prizes to give away at the BR booth during the annual convention meeting November 6-7. Be there! |
