K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Lessons from Nazi Germany I recently returned from some mission assignments in three European countries. I will be writing about each of these over the next month. This week I shared some reflections on my tour of the Nazi concentration camp in Dachau, Germany. The horrors of this dark time in German history are gut-wrenching and very painful to absorb. I hope you will read my editorial online and in this week’s copy of the Biblical Recorder and share it with your friends. There are many lessons Americans need to learn from Dachau. The Bible records many experiences about prisons and prisoners. The Apostle Paul experienced prison. Hebrews 13:3 tells us to "Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them..." I want to ask you to pray for one of our brothers who is imprisoned in Iran at this moment, Pastor Saeed Abedini. This coming Saturday marks the third year since he was imprisoned in Iran for his faith in Jesus Christ. Pastor Saeed is an American citizen who has been repeatedly beaten and denied medical care, yet he continues to be a faithful witness for Christ to his fellow prisoners. Please pray for his safety, health and release from prison. His wife, Naghmeh, is asking Christians worldwide to join her in a prayer vigil at noon this Saturday, Sept. 26. Keep your eyes on BRnow.org today for a story we will be posting about the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee’s meeting in Nashville this week. The story includes an update from David Platt, president of the International Mission Board. There is much concern about the future strength of our international mission force. Let’s pray, give and support our missionaries sacrificially. Your church’s Annual Church Profile (ACP) IS IMPORTANT. Read Seth Brown’s excellent article on the significance of the ACP in our Great Commission assignment. Please check with your church staff to insure that your church information is part of the Southern Baptist portrait that the ACP paints every year. People need to know! |
