Seth Brown BR Content Editor | Rejoicing and weeping If someone were to ask, "Does your church need revival and renewal?" there's a good chance each of us would say yes, to some degree. But there are many churches across the state – and throughout the nation, in fact – that are experiencing decline at alarming levels. One of those congregations was Oakhurst Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C. Four years ago Oakhurst was prepared to close its doors. Yet, the church is now thriving due to a successful "replanting" effort that occurred through partnerships with other local churches. Read more about Oakhurst's encouraging story here. And, if you believe your church is in serious need of revitalization or replanting, contact your local association or state convention leaders. Last month, Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina celebrated the 35-year anniversary of Michael Blackwell's leadership. You will be astonished at how the ministry has expanded during his tenure as executive director. Find out more here. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 12:15 to "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." This week we are grieving with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church whose pastor, Marc Tilley, was killed in a car accident Aug. 10. Tilley's wife, Candi, was driving the vehicle when they were hit from behind. She sustained injuries, but has been released from the hospital. A memorial service was held Aug. 15. Please pray for Pleasant Grove as the church mourns this significant loss. As always, your Biblical Recorder staff is ready and willing to serve you however we can. Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions or potential story leads. We look forward to hearing from you! People need to know! |
