K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Identified by missions Southern Baptists are tied together by the two essential cords of the Bible and the mission mandate of the Great Commission. The International Mission Board (IMB) is the structure that identifies and fulfills our mission more than any other. So when major changes happen at IMB, we listen intently like E.F. Hutton is speaking in the once popular commercial. The changes at IMB in the past nine months are unprecedented. In spite of the annoying distractions of the presidential primaries, people are watching and wondering how successful the IMB reset will be. With David Platt’s announcement last week that we are losing more than 1,100 international and stateside IMB personnel, there is a measure of uncertainty about the strength and future direction of the world’s largest mission-sending agency. Because the number of missionaries who responded to the Voluntary Retirement Incentive was much larger than anticipated, Platt was asked if the expense of bringing these families back to the states will exceed budget allocations. This story on BRnow.org gives his response: IMB to handle added VRI, HRO costs. Platt invites you to participate in a live-streamed Q&A session Thursday morning. This article tells how you can submit your questions and connect to the live event. Pray for Platt, the stateside staff, the overseas mission personnel and the trustees of IMB. Follow the Biblical Recorder for the latest IMB news. Now that Super Tuesday is over, here’s a question to consider. What is God saying to His children in the United States? With all of the seminars on the subject of leadership in recent decades, one would think the American public would be able to recognize what a leader should look like. But judging by the frontrunners in both political parties, the majority are completely clueless to recognize the qualities of a good leader. It’s amazingly baffling! Either blindness is epidemic or darkness is endemic. |
