K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Baltimore is close When Southern Baptists gather for our annual meeting each June it draws those who are looking for fellowship, ministry connections, and who want to shape our Great Commission vision. This June 9-11 we meet in Baltimore, Md., the closest location to North Carolina since we met in Greensboro in 2006. Prior to that, Nashville (2005) and Atlanta (1999) were nearest to us. The next conventions are scheduled in Columbus (Ohio), St. Louis, Phoenix, Dallas, Birmingham and Orlando. So, if you want to experience the excitement and inspiration of an annual convention, the Pastors’ Conference and related gatherings, this may be the best opportunity for Carolinians. We’ve posted a number of stories on the Biblical Recorder’s website this week to help you prepare for the meetings in historic Baltimore. Stay informed on the way God is at work in and through Southern Baptists. N.C.’s Bruce Frank, lead pastor of Biltmore Baptist Church, is the president of the Pastor’s Conference. He has assembled a strong lineup of speakers. You will be encouraged and challenged by these men. Thursday, May 1 is a very important day. It is the National Day of Prayer. Atheists and "free thinkers" have dubbed the day as a "Day of Reason," a futile exercise of introspection, protesting the power of praying to God. While they "think about it," let’s get busy "praying about it." Read about the history of this special day on the National Day of Prayer website. Finally, next Tuesday, May 6 is a day Christians can uniquely exercise our commitment to godliness and truth in the public arena. Our influence is important every time the polls are open for voting. I hope you will vote in next Tuesday’s primary election. Be informed and vote biblical convictions. Email me: [email protected] |
