![]() ![]() Seth Brown Executive Editor | Good News for the grieving We mourn yet again at news of mass shootings in our country. The latest instance marks number 251 in the U.S. in 2019. There is no shortage of opinionated ink being spilled about why such horrific acts of violence occur and how Americans should respond to these tragedies. I suppose it is good and right for us to hash out such matters in open public discourse. Indeed, we must. As we do, I pray that Christians across the country will pause to lament and grieve as we press toward solutions that benefit our communities. We live in the midst of a world that desperately needs to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and see His character in our lives. Let us remember that we serve a Lord acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:3). Let us be quick to hear from the hurting and slow to speak (James 1:19). Let us be humble enough to stand for truth and bold enough to do so with gentleness, like our Savior before us (Isaiah 42:1-3). On a more positive note, I recently spoke with Paul Chitwood, president of the International Mission Board. He described an encouraging uptick in the number of missionary candidates currently in the pipeline at the IMB. Be sure to read the story that came out of that interview.
