K. Allan Blume BR Editor | The ongoing battle for freedom Although this is a holiday week and most of us are caught up in vacations, some extremely significant news has been rolling out. At the Biblical Recorder, we’ve not only been busy getting the latest news to you, but we have also been reporting the views of Christian leaders. This week’s editorial is a summary of some of those perspectives in response to last week’s Supreme Court rulings on gay marriage. I hope their comments will challenge and encourage you. If you have not seen this great resource from the SBC Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, please check it out now. It will help you and your church as you face the issue of gay marriage. One very good news item is Hobby Lobby’s court victory over the health care mandate. This is very important! On February 13, 2012 I wrote in my editorial, "...nothing in my lifetime has demonstrated a more blatant violation of both the U.S. Constitution and basic Bible truth than the edict from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius – with the endorsement of the White House – to force religious organizations to violate their freedom of conscience in matters of life, health and contraception." Hobby Lobby is spending a great amount of money in legal fees to fight this court battle. Their fight is not only for their company, but for all private businesses and free Americans. It is a battle for freedom from the same tyrannical oppression that launched the American Revolution in 1775. It is a sad fact that the hard-earned dollars of individuals and businesses have to be spent to fight the government whose assignment is to guard our freedoms. As you celebrate the birthday of our nation’s independence, pray that freedom will be restored and that spiritual revival will sweep our land. Email me: [email protected] |
