K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Worship Jesus, the newborn King Some of our Christmas celebrations tend to overly romanticize the birth of Jesus. In truth, He was not born in a family of wealth and influence with great pomp and circumstance. He was born in the most humble conditions – a stable – and placed in a barn animal’s feeding trough. It doesn’t sound like a very sanitary place for a newborn child, but God arranged it, so it was perfect. His parents were not famous, wealthy or influential. He was born in Bethlehem, which in those days might be the equivalent of a one-stoplight small town with a gas station and a barber shop. Jesus came to a common place, to common parents. The first witnesses on the scene were shepherds – men who were not held in high esteem and whose testimony was not considered credible. Why did God tell them first? Why the small town? I don’t know, but God arranged it, so it was perfect. In the presence of these humble circumstances, a handful of wealthy, wise men found their way to Bethlehem to worship this newborn king. We don’t know how long it took them to complete their journey, but they could have traveled much more than a year. That’s a determined desire to worship! Why did they search out the baby? Why did it take them so long? I don’t know, but God arranged it, so it was perfect. Why did this King never rule an earthly kingdom, never sit on an earthly throne and never surround himself with wealth? Why did he eventually suffer and die so unjustly? I know why. Because you and I (and the rest of the world) need a Savior. God arranged it, so it was perfect. His story is amazing. His grace is even more amazing. He is on His throne now. The wealth of all creation responds to His voice. Rejoice! What a Savior! Celebrate this Christmas by giving Him your best worship. Worship the babe who now rules as King of kings and Lord of lords! Would you like to be a graceful witness in your family gathering at Christmas? Don Whitney always blesses me with his great insights into the spiritual walk of believers. He shares this list of 10 questions to ask at your family Christmas gathering. Read it here and proclaim Jesus to your family with joy! People need to know! Let's tell them! |
