K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Two discussions continue: Calvinism & the Scouts The second part of Danny Akin’s overview of Calvinism is in this week’s edition of the Biblical Recorder. We hope the series brings clarity and understanding to the discussions over the issue of Calvinism in Southern Baptist life. We hope you will contribute to the discussion through a letter to the editor or by submitting your comments online at the end of the article. You probably have friends in your Bible study group who would like to read both parts of Akin’s series. Please share the articles with them. This closing portion gives six ideas to guide your discussions. We hope you will give serious attention to the suggestions. It might seem that the discussion over the Boy Scouts’ (BSA) policies on homosexuality has died down, but it has not. The discussions only moved from front page headline news to the backroom chambers of committees. Those whose churches have enjoyed a long, healthy relationship with BSA have continued to pray and agonize in private discussions over their future path. Last Sunday Winston-Salem pastor Rob Peters announced the results of Calvary Baptist Church’s thorough study of the issue. Read their story on BRnow.org. Please let the Biblical Recorder know if your church has finalized your relationship with BSA. John wrote, "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it" (John 1:4-5). While the world’s turmoil continues to spin in the darkness, it is essential that followers of Jesus Christ keep perspective. Jesus is life and He is light. The world does not get it. They never will, unless they submit in faith to Jesus Christ as the only Savior. But, we have the privilege of living in His life and His light. Let’s live for His honor and glory. Remember, the N.C. Missions Offering begins this weekend! Let's give generously. Email me: [email protected] |
