We hear talk about women’s rights, the right to work, civil rights, gay rights, abortion rights, gun rights, human rights, animal rights, free-speech rights, reproductive rights, children’s rights, patients rights, disability rights, property rights and the right to remain silent. Our nation’s Declaration of Independence states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." While this document does not name, nor does it guarantee the endless list of rights now being claimed, it is clear that life is mentioned first. Liberty is second. Those are important rights to reflect upon as we grieve 40 years of "abortion rights." Every 25 seconds another child is denied the right to life in the United States. That denial intrinsically robs a human being of the right to liberty. The first two guarantees of this document have been abruptly snubbed by greed and evil politics. The fact that it has continued for 40 years is unthinkable. How can this be? The Creator is not silent. Certainly His redeemed people cannot represent Him by silence. We must continue to speak loudly, boldly, compassionately for those little children who cannot speak for themselves. This week’s BRweekly and the BRnow.org website give you some of the many articles and blogs which focus on the Roe v. Wade anniversary. I hope you will read every one.
