 K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Family, Faith and Freedom Protection Act Last Wednesday, the North Carolina Senate gave its final approval to the Family, Faith and Freedom Protection Act. Originally, the bill was designed to make certain that no foreign law, like Sharia law, is applied in any family court action in North Carolina. The legislation was amended to include restrictions for abortions in North Carolina. The Senate voted 29-12 for the measure that would direct state health regulators to change abortion clinic rules to be similar to those for ambulatory surgery centers and add other reasonable regulations on the heels of the Gosnell trial’s horrific revelations. More details on the bill are explained on the Christian Action League’s website. Now in the State’s House of Representatives, the brakes were applied to HB695. Speaker Tillis sent the bill to committee Tuesday for further discussion. The bill’s supporters hope for a final vote on Wednesday. You would not expect the secularists to sit by quietly when their "abortion rights" are challenged. Hundreds of angry protesters descended on the legislature to express their displeasure. They are pressuring lawmakers to keep few limits on abortion clinics. Pro-life voices were also strong in the legislature in the Tuesday session. In other news, on Tuesday the ACLU announced their plans to challenge the marriage amendment passed by N.C. voters in 2012, according to WRAL’s website.
