Resolution of continued support

Resolution of continued support
October 07, 2014

This resolution has been submitted by David Gasperson, pastor of Warsaw Baptist Church, and will be voted on at the annual meeting of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina Nov. 10-11 in Greensboro:

Whereas the Southern Baptist Convention and North American Mission Board have adopted a strategy for reaching the unchurched in North America by increasing their focus on the greatest concentrations of unreached and underserved people groups in the largest metropolitan areas of North America through its “Send Cities” approach, and

Whereas the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina has adopted a strategy entitled “Impacting Lostness Through Disciple Making” which identifies the 100 greatest pockets of lostness in North Carolina clustered primarily in 8 population areas in the state, and has committed to implement this strategy starting in those population areas, and

Whereas Acts 1:8 commands us to reach those in “Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth,” and

Whereas we as North Carolina Baptists recognize that our Jerusalem and Judea encompasses all of the state of North Carolina, and

Whereas the stated mission of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina is to assist all of our churches in fulfilling their divinely appointed missions, and

Whereas it is clear that the majority of North Carolina Baptist churches are now plateaued or declining in both urban and rural settings, and

Whereas we recognize the value of every lost soul, whether residing in an urban or rural area of our state and the importance of strengthening and resourcing churches in every area of our state,

Be it resolved that we, the messengers of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, meeting in Greensboro November 10-11, 2014 acknowledge the great need to address lostness in both North Carolina and North America, and furthermore

Be it resolved that we affirm the strategy of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina that begins in the 8 population areas containing the 100 greatest pockets of lostness, but is not limited to working in those 8 population areas, and furthermore

Be it resolved that we encourage the leadership of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina to continue engaging, supporting, and equipping churches and associations in areas outside of the identified 8 population areas so that disciples will be made across this state and churches might experience revitalization in both urban and rural areas, and finally

Be it resolved that we commit ourselves to renewed prayer for spiritual awakening across this great state that Christ might be exalted and millions of lives in both urban and rural settings might be transformed for the glory of God the Father.
