In Matthew 28, Jesus commanded His followers to go into all the nations and to teach people His commands and His truth. People must be taught from God’s Word how to live in a way that is focused on the Kingdom of God, and how to apply scripture to their lives.
“If Bible study doesn’t transform lives, then it is nothing more than sharing content,” said Phil Stone, state Sunday School director and senior consultant for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSC).
“In Romans 12:2, we are called to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We must apply biblical truth to our lives so that we are living, through the power of the Holy Spirit, for the glory of God.”
Stone, who has devoted more than 30 years to teaching and leading North Carolina Baptists in transformational Bible study, believes that small group Bible study has the power to help equip believers to share their faith and to make disciples.

In an effort to assist local church leaders and teachers in making disciples, the BSC is partnering with LifeWay Christian Resources to host the “Transform…Changing Lives Through Teaching” conference April 13 at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail.
“The goal of this conference is to train people not to teach the Bible as a history book, but to teach people the Bible so that lives are transformed. My prayer is that North Carolina Baptist church teachers in Sunday School, small group ministry, or anyone who teaches the Bible regardless of ministry or program, will attend this significant training event,” Stone said.
Conference tracks will be offered for teachers of pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary school, pre-teen, middle school, high school, young adults, middle aged adults and senior adults, as well as pastors, ministers of education, new Sunday School directors and experienced Sunday School directors.
The conference will focus on topics such as transformational teaching, practical teaching methods, how to plan and prepare to teach, classroom dynamics, and understanding different learning strategies.
Event registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the conference concludes at 2:30 p.m. Cost is $29 per person, which includes meals.
