The SBC Executive Committee will meet at the Hilton BNA on Sept. 22-23.
NASHVILLE (BP) — Executive Committee (EC) members will hear reports at their gathering next week and discuss referrals from June’s Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) annual meeting, including those calling for constitutional amendments and forming a task force to study resources for special needs ministry available to churches.
The meeting convenes at the Hilton BNA, located adjacent to the Nashville International Airport, on Sept. 22-23. Plenary sessions will be streamed live by Baptist Press.
Subcommittees dedicated to Missions and Ministry, Events and Strategic Planning, Finances and Stewardship Development, and Southern Baptist Relations will meet on Monday afternoon. The first plenary session will take place at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 22 and feature reports from EC President Jeff Iorg and SBC President Clint Pressley.
Lifeway interim President Joe Walker will also present checks to North American Mission Board President Kevin Ezell and International Mission Board President Paul Chitwood — money donated by thousands of kids attending this summer’s Lifeway camps.
EC chairman Tony Dockery, senior pastor of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church in La Puente, Calif., will lead a new slate of officers. Adam Wyatt, senior pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Monticello, Miss., is vice-chair while Nancy Spaulding, a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Roseville, Mich., is secretary.
Those leading the four standing committees are:
- Corey Cain, lead pastor of Seymour (Tenn.) First Baptist, Events and Strategic Planning
- David Twiddy, member of Mission Hill Church in Temple Terrace, Fla., Finances and Stewardship Development
- Sarah Rogers, women’s ministry leader at Christ Fellowship Church in Greenville, S.C., Missions and Ministry
- Todd Stiles, founding pastor of First Family Church in Ankeny, Iowa, Southern Baptist Relations.
The second plenary session begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 23 and will feature reports from EC officers as well as the four subcommittees. The third and final plenary session is scheduled for 10 a.m. In recent meetings, that session has been held mostly in executive session.
