
The Biblical Recorder, the N.C. Baptist Aging Ministry and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary each garnered multiple recognitions in the 61st annual Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition, which were presented during the Baptist Communicators Association’s annual workshop held April 21-24 in San Antonio, Texas.
The awards recognize work in a variety of divisions and categories reflecting various aspects of communications. Divisions include: public relations and development; interactive communications; audio-visual communications; photography; news writing; feature writing; design; and overall publication.
Following is a breakdown of the awards received by each organization.
The Biblical Recorder received two honors in the publications and feature writing divisions. They were:
• Second place, print publication magazine category in the overall publication division: “BR January/February 2024 issue.”
• Third place in the series or package category of the feature writing division for “Out of the storm: N.C. Baptist disaster response marks 40th anniversary” by Chad Austin.
The N.C. Baptist Aging Ministry earned three honors in the news writing, design and overall publication divisions. They were:
• Second place, single article less than 750 words category of the news writing division for “NCBAM’s first 15 years” by Carol Layton.
• Second place, print collateral brochure category in the design division for “15-year anniversary rack card” by Carol Layton.
• Second place in the book category of the overall publication division for “The Caregiver’s Guidebook” by Carol Layton.
Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary earned seven awards — including two first-place recognitions — in the areas of interactive communications, feature writing and design. They were:
• First place in the design elements illustrations category of the design division for “House illustrations” by Clarissa Hartman.
• First place for a single article of more than 1,500 words in the feature writing division for “I need to go to seminary: On mission among the Speller Bros.” by Mary Asta Mountain.
• Second place in the design elements new logo category of the design division for the “Elliott House crest” by Clarissa Hartman.
• Second place in the print publications magazine single issue category of the design division for “The Great Commission Magazine” by the marketing & communications.
• Second place in the print publications magazine spread category of the design division for “The life of Adoniram Judson spread” by Clarissa Hartman.
• Third place in the print publications magazine cover category of the design division by Ryan Thomas, Clarissa Hartman and Abigail Ginsterblum.
• Third place for a single social media post in the interactive communications division for the “Judson College rename hype video” by Sophie Rhoads and Abigail Ginsterblum.
Founded in 1953, the Baptist Communicators Association is a national professional development organization for communicators who primarily serve with Southern Baptist agencies, state conventions, Baptist news organizations, and Baptist colleges, universities and seminaries. Members represent seven interest categories that include: editorial; public relations; electronic media; photography; management; marketing and graphic design.
