CONWAY, S.C. — Police in South Carolina have arrested a former middle school employee who is also listed as the pastor of a church in North Carolina for sexual misconduct charges involving a minor.
Devin Cyrus Carroll, 22, was arrested by the Conway Police Department on Saturday, July 5, on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to online jail records. Carroll was released on Monday, July 7, after posting a $30,000 bond.
The alleged incident stems from Carroll’s time working as an in-school suspension aide at Conway Middle School in South Carolina, according to multiple published media reports. The alleged incident reportedly took place at the school on May 29 and involved a 13-year-old.
Horry County Schools confirmed that Carroll was a former employee of the school system and that he worked as an in-school suspension aide at Conway Middle School, according to reports. The school system also said that Carroll submitted his resignation on Jan. 7 of this year with an effective date of June 7.
Carroll was also listed as the pastor of Happy Home Baptist Church in Nakina, N.C., according to the church’s website, much of which was deactivated sometime after Carroll’s arrest. Links to several pages on the site have been removed, including pages for staff, announcements, events, ministries and more.
A bio for Carroll on an archived staff page of the church’s website said Carroll has pastored the church since May 2024. Carroll’s current status with the church is unclear, but as of Monday, July 14, the church’s Facebook page still listed him as pastor.
Efforts to reach the church by phone and email for comment have been unsuccessful at the time of publication.
Happy Home Baptist Church is located in Columbus County, which borders Horry County along the North Carolina-South Carolina border.
