NASHVILLE (BP) — Those wanting more security in their funds supporting and being invested through “kingdom-building causes” and businesses have a new tool through which to do it.
The LegacyWayDAF is a state-of-the-art donor-advised fund (DAF) platform that is “designed to empower Southern Baptists to give with purpose, precision and biblical integrity,” said a statement from the Southern Baptist Foundation.
Those using any DAF acknowledge that the gifts they provide through it are subject to the discretion of the sponsoring organization. As such, those donations legally become the assets of the sponsor and not the donor.
The LegacyWayDAF came about through a partnership with the Foundation and GuideStone Financial Resources and reflects Southern Baptist values.
“It’s been in development for quite some time, with a strong emphasis on creating a solution that reflects biblical stewardship principles,” Southern Baptist Foundation President and CEO Warren Peek told Baptist Press. “We prioritized integration with GuideStone’s system to ensure reliability and consistency across their platform.”
That integration means no investments in companies associated with abortion, gambling, pornography or others deemed incompatible with Christian ethics.
“The ‘options screened for biblical alignment’ section was shaped by a combination of client feedback and internal discussions,” said Peek. “Many of our clients expressed a strong desire for investment options that reflect their faith, and we’ve been intentional about incorporating those values into the platform.”
The platform has already been embraced by supporters of the International Mission Board (IMB) as well as churches and faith-aligned organizations, said the Foundation statement, adding that the LegacyWayDAF is “unapologetically rooted in Christian doctrine.”
Peek said that in some cases, secular DAF sponsors may choose not to approve grants from Christian organizations, especially those characterized as “hate groups” because of their traditional, biblical views.
“For these reasons, it’s essential that Christians choose a donor-advised fund that aligns with their biblical values, ensuring their charitable giving is stewarded in a way that honors God and supports faith-based causes,” he said.
“By partnering with LegacyWay, Christians can steward their resources in a way that honors God, fosters biblical generosity and advances the kingdom of Christ through biblically responsible investment options.”
