|After the victory|

For many years the elected legislators in North Carolina have refused to allow the citizens of the state the privilege of voting on the definition of marriage. Last year our newly elected representatives and senators voted to hold a statewide referendum to determine the views of the voters.
As you know, Tuesday the voters strongly expressed their desire to have a constitutional amendment stating, "Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts."
No one can say with integrity that anyone has forced their will on the majority. The majority voted. That’s the way we do it in the United States of America. The majority wants this marriage amendment. The majority in 30 other states have the same opinion.
While we rejoice that this battle is over, we must quickly admit that we have a lot of work to do. If we want our witness to have integrity, and if God is to get glory through His church, we have no time to waste. May I suggest some starting points?
1. We must focus on strengthening marriages in our church families.
2. We must proclaim and practice the message of redemption toward those who have chosen the homosexual lifestyle.
3. We must intentionally resist the secular culture of liberalism that is deceiving and brainwashing the younger generations.
I am writing more on these three points in a coming article. Please email me with your comments on this subject.
