K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Proclaim truth now I can’t think of a verse of scripture that more accurately describes our world than this one, "who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen" (Romans 1:25, NKJ). There are two major spiritual violations described in this verse, and they are probably the most serious of all sins. First, truth is the core of God’s identity and nature. The slightest minimization of truth is a major affront to God. Exchanging truth for its polar opposite – a lie – is serious beyond measure. Second, to worship any part of creation above the Creator is idolatry. Without question, God hates idolatry. When God delivered his first formal statement to the world through His servant Moses, He chose to begin with these words: "You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;" (Exodus 20:3-4, NKJ). The first chapter of Romans describes people who were under the wrath of God. Deceit and idolatry are the dominant sins. Christian leaders need to pay attention to the two characteristics of this generation. They are featured in the headlines of every day’s news and cannot be taken lightly. Now is the time to proclaim the truth of scripture. It is desperately needed. The Biblical Recorder is glad to be your partner in the proclamation of eternal truth. Email me: [email protected]. |
