|Let's be honest |
Every serious Christian has felt the frustration over "the Christmas wars." This term has been used to describe the diminishing emphasis on the true meaning of Christmas.
We hear more general references to the "holiday" than we hear about Christmas. While most of us know very well that we are celebrating Christmas, many choose to live in denial over which holiday we are celebrating.
The embracing of such political correctness is another way of saying, "Let’s not be honest." Sadly, too many are comfortable with that brand of dishonesty.
Taking the opposite path, Christians can say, "Let’s be honest." We are not ashamed to proclaim that Christ was born in Bethlehem. What holiday is it? It’s Christmas!
One of this week’s featured stories is "Nativity projects point to Jesus." In it, BR editorial aide Laura Reid tells about two N.C. Baptists who are demonstrating positive approaches to proclaiming the real meaning of Christmas to secular audiences.
Please read Jeff Andler’s and Donna Nealy’s stories. God has given each of them a heart to showcase nativity scenes as a method of defining what "holiday" we are celebrating. I hope you will choose to join their movement!
A quick reminder: This is the Week of Prayer for International Missions. If you do not have a printed daily prayer guide, use this one on the IMB website. Pray and give generously!
