K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Christmas celebrations The month of December is marked by a variety of celebrations. Christians celebrate Advent and Christmas, which is about God’s gift to mankind. Secularists celebrate "the holidays," which is all about parties and giving gifts to each other. But Jewish families celebrate Hanukkah, which is a celebration of the rededication of the temple, also called the Feast of Lights or Feast of Dedication. It is an eight-day celebration symbolized by the traditional menorah with its eight candles. Messianic fellowships across North Carolina are reaching out with significant ministries to Jewish communities. In the latest issue of the Biblical Recorder, managing editor Shawn Hendricks wrote a story about two of these ministries. We hope the story will stir our readers to a greater awareness of this important Jewish feast and encourage your support for these ministries. Sam Nadler, president of Word of Messiah ministries, has been working in the Jewish community for many years. I have called on Sam many times to preach in churches I have pastored. Pray for Sam and his wife, Miriam. They have a unique role in Kingdom work. In the same story, we tell about Howard and Melissa Taylor, whose ministry in Messianic fellowships has recently reached into eastern N.C. I met them recently when I spoke to the pastors' conference of the West Chowan Baptist Association. Pray for their church start in that association. Email me: [email protected] |
