K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Last week’s Culture Reach conference at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church was incredibly on target. BR Managing Editor Shawn Hendricks captured much of the event’s powerful instruction in one of this week’s key stories. One of the many exchanges that grabbed my attention was a panel discussion with the conference leaders. In response to the common cultural assumption that the god of Islam and the God of the Bible are the same, Alex McFarland said, "Similarity does not equal sameness. This table has four legs. My dog has four legs. They are similar, but they are not the same ... In sharing the gospel today we have to help people understand that all gods are not the same." Nabeel, a former Muslim, now a Christian evangelist, added, "Even a high degree of similarity is not sameness." He pointed out that 97% of the DNA of a monkey is the same as that of a human. "That 3% really matters, doesn’t it! When it comes to Islam and Christianity there are a ton of similarities ... but where is that 3% difference?" Islam teaches that Jesus is not God, that he did not die on the cross and did not rise from the dead. Romans 10:9 proclaims the opposite of Islam’s teachings. I wish all Baptists could have attended this powerful event. Audio recordings are available through Pleasant Garden church. Thank you, Don McCutcheon, Marty Dupree and the whole evangelism team for hitting the ball out of the park! Don’t forget – this is the week of prayer for North American missions!
