K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Prominent on everyone’s mind this week is Monday’s senseless bombing near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. A tragedy like this should motivate believers to pray for those in the epicenter of the crisis. We have some very effective church planters in Boston who are rising to the occasion and faithfully ministering in this shocked community. They need your prayers for wisdom, strength and grace. You’ll want to read this story about our Baptist leaders and their ministry in New England. As a result of this evil act, we’ll probably hear the same old cliches from unbelievers: "Where was God?" "How can a loving God allow this?" You know the common cries at a time like this. Unbelievers typically refuse to have a reasonable discussion about God, but are quite willing to bash God when they don’t believe He is acting the way they think He should act. They seem to imply that God should either consult with them before He does anything or submit a satisfactory explanation. Our best response is to love the skeptics and get on with caring for the needs of hurting people. Baptists have a stellar record of ministry in times of crisis through Baptist Men disaster teams and local church ministries. Let’s keep on serving, praying and keeping our eyes on Jesus. He has a plan. Last Friday night we posted an important story on BRnow.org about the Baptist State Convention’s proposed restructuring plan. It is the most read article on our website this week. Please take time to read it. It presents a significant strategy for reaching our state with the gospel. Pray that God will use this to make a powerful impact for Christ in N.C.
