K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Plea for a spiritual awakening When Ronnie Floyd was elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention last June in Baltimore, he wasted no time defining the focus of his leadership. In his first press conference he said the nation is overdue for "a great movement of the Lord." Floyd added, "I want to see revival come to the church of Jesus Christ, so that America would be awakened with a powerful God consciousness where great numbers come to faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior." He wrote a booklet titled, Pleading with Southern Baptists To Humbly Come Together Before God in Clear Agreement, Visible Union, and in Extraordinary Prayer for the Next Great Awakening and for the World to Be Reached for Christ. He gave the Biblical Recorder permission to publish the text of this plea in this week’s edition. Please read this plea and join Floyd in prayer that God will do an extraordinary work in us, in our nation and in the world. The current issue of the BR provides a review of the top news in 2014, including the top 14 most read stories on BRnow.org. It was a challenging year characterized by rapid cultural change. I believe Baptists have been responsive to confront the issues of the day with truth and grace. We also have much to do. I pray that 2015 will be a year of tremendous spiritual victory for all of us. Please read my letter to N.C. Baptists regarding the future of the Biblical Recorder. I believe the BR is a very important part of our Great Commission assignment. But there are some grave concerns we need to deal with. Will the Biblical Recorder be here in five years? I hope so, but the answer will be determined by pastors and other church leaders in N.C. Finally, make certain the ‘One Story’ conference is on your calendar for Feb. 23. |
