K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Winning the Olympic medals For the follower of Jesus Christ, the highlight of the games is the witness for the Savior that goes around the world. Your Biblical Recorder is telling some of the stories about athletes like Simone Manuel who are giving a witness for Christ. Read her story here. As you enjoy the final days of the Olympic games, pray that the witness of the Christian athletes is received in the hearts of every listener. Also pray for the untold number of believers who traveled to Brazil for the sole purpose of sharing the gospel, like my friend Sid Hopkins who is mentioned in this story we reported. God is working in great ways in Brazil! Pray for the people in Louisiana that have experienced devastating floods this week, and pray for the disaster relief volunteers who bring help and hope to these shattered lives. The damage is beyond belief. I’m thankful that Southern Baptists have teams of workers who are trained and ready to serve when disaster strikes. Keep this in mind when you give to the North Carolina Mission Offering in September. This offering is the source of funding for North Carolina Baptist Men. If you live in the Piedmont or Western regions of the state, don’t miss the One Day equipping event this Saturday, August 20, at Western Avenue Baptist Church in Statesville. Click on the advertisement box in this e-newsletter for details. Has someone joined your church from a non-Baptist background in the past two years?
