K. Allan Blume BR Editor | The resurrection: Jesus is alive! It’s not about marshmallow chicks, chocolate bunnies and colored eggs. It’s not about colorful baskets and new spring clothes. It’s about the resurrection of Jesus Christ who suffered and died for our sins and arose again on the third day. The world calls it Easter. We call it resurrection day! John records the story of Martha’s grief over the death of her brother, Lazarus. In her conversation with Jesus she struggled to get a handle on life after death. "Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die’" John 11:25-26. This is the consolation and hope everyone needs. The resurrection is the reason Christians worship on Sunday instead of on the Jewish Sabbath, which is Saturday. Early Christians – many who came from Jewish homes – began gathering for worship on the first day of the week to celebrate the resurrection rather than the last day of the week, the day of rest. Celebrate the resurrection as you have never celebrated before! And keep looking for His triumphal return! In this edition of BRweekly we highlighted a story about a conference in October on the future of marriage. On that same subject watch for a guest column by Russell Moore on our website tomorrow. Moore has written a great piece that identifies the biblical foundations of marriage. Tuesday night I had the honor of gathering at Camp Cale (near Elizabeth City) with the great folks of the Chowan Baptist Association. I love meetings like this with grass roots Baptists who are staying on target with the Great Commission. Associational missionaries like Rob Roberts are not typically in the headlines. But Rob, the pastors in northeastern N.C. and Baptists in this region are examples of the hard-working, Kingdom-focused servants who are faithfully ministering the truth of God’s Word in the harvest fields. Keep up the great work, brothers and sisters! |
