K. Allan Blume BR Editor | This important week This week is the very important annual emphasis on praying for international missions. Are you praying? Every year the week of prayer for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions is foundational to Southern Baptists’ overall mission strategy. Every missionary desperately needs and genuinely desires our prayer support. Missionary work is increasingly dangerous in countries where the cultural climate is unstable, and even hostile. So our missionary personnel need your prayers for wisdom, protection and safety. The International Mission Board is looking at a long list of missionary candidates who are ready and willing to serve overseas, but the funds are not available to send them. We need to pray for the resources to match the obedience of those whom God has called. Those who serve overseas do so with a salary that is far below the pay scale of most Baptists. They are separated from family and close friends in the states. They are ordinary people like you and me, but they are willing to pay the price of obedience and follow God’s call to serve in another nation. We must pray for them and assure them that we are fully on their team. Our giving must reflect our total support. There has never been a greater need for sacrificial giving and radical commitment from those of us who live in the comfort of the United States. I am praying for our missionaries, but I am praying even more that Baptists in the United States will be extremely generous in our giving. For an additional perspective, read my editorial in this week’s Biblical Recorder. Read this story about how one North Carolina church is involved in international missions on BRnow.org. If you do not have a prayer guide for the week of prayer, visit the IMB website for your daily prayer guide. People need to know! |
