K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Prosperity gospel fails its followers This week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder has a guest column by Joe Carter on the deceptions within the claims of the prosperity gospel, also called the "health and wealth gospel." Every member of your church needs to read Carter’s critique. He summarizes this false teaching’s claims, its history, the key leaders and the problems it presents. He includes a list of five errors in the core teachings of the prosperity gospel, as explained by David W. Jones, professor of Christian ethics at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. This is a larger problem than we may believe. I believe most pastors would be surprised how many of their congregation are followers of one of the prosperity deceivers. In the end, followers of the prosperity gospel discover that it fails them and is completely unbiblical. The disappointment leads some to completely deny the Bible. Please read the column and share it with your Bible study group. Another valuable article in this week’s edition is a guest column by Denise George on the growing problem of teen suicide. This is another "must read" article. Learn how you can reach out to teenagers and minister to a serious need. The facts are undeniable. The need is urgent. Thanks to our generous BR readers, we have received $1,395.00 to date that will help provide scholarships for pastors of small churches to attend the SBC Pastor’s Conference in Phoenix next month. Please continue to send your gifts by mail to: Pastors Fund, Biblical Recorder, P.O. Box 1185, Cary, NC 27512 or click here to contribute online. You’re the best!
