K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Full slate of news This week’s news in Baptist life covers a broad spectrum of issues. Ronnie Floyd floated the suggestion that IMB and NAMB should consider a merger; popular pastor and Bible teacher, James McDonald, shares why he became a Southern Baptist; and Rosario Butterfield tells her story of leaving the lesbian lifestyle when Christ changed her life. All of these are great stories in today’s headlines that you need to read. Of course, we are helping our neighbors to the south recover from the devastating floods of more than a week ago. Pray for the people of South Carolina and for the faithful volunteers of N.C. Baptist Men (and Women) who glorify God by sacrificially serving others in time of need. Don’t forget about the important "We Stand with God" Rally this Saturday in Raleigh. Gov. Mike Huckabee and others are confirmed speakers for the event. Click here to read more about this event and for further details. NC Pastors’ Conference president Micheal Pardue has assembled a strong lineup of preachers for this year’s pre-convention event. Don’t miss the spiritual encouragement and strength that is offered to you at this conference. Last Sunday it was my honor to preach the Word at Swann Station Baptist Church in Sanford for their 144th anniversary and homecoming. Pastor Russell Blackmon has served this sweet fellowship for 27 years! What an outstanding record! Blake McFarland, the church’s student pastor, came to Christ while a student at Appalachian State University through the ministry of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Boone, and served as an intern there. This pastor team of Blackmon and McFarland are doing a great work of reaching people and making disciples for Christ. I want to thank these men and this church for encouraging me! And to all those at Swann Station who signed up for the BRweekly, welcome to your first edition! People need to know! Do the people in your church know?
