Page resigns after moral indiscretion
Frank Page has announced his resignation as president and CEO of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention. If you followed his two announcements Tuesday, you saw that Page’s first statement was very general. A second press release Tuesday afternoon was more complete. Sadly, our brother has admitted to “a morally inappropriate relationship in the recent past.”
Page said, “As a result of a personal failing, I have embarrassed my family, my Lord, myself, and the Kingdom. Out of a desire to protect my family and those I have hurt, I initially announced my retirement earlier today without a complete explanation. However, after further wrestling with my personal indiscretion, it became apparent to me that this situation must be acknowledged in a more forthright manner. It is my most earnest desire in the days to come to rebuild the fabric of trust with my wife and daughters, those who know me best and love me most.” Read the full story here.
We are saddened, but committed to pray for Page, his family and others who may be involved in this moral failure. May the grace and mercy of our God be granted to each of us as we consider our own lifestyle and our holy calling.
This Sunday is commonly labeled Easter. The celebration expresses the core value and uniqueness of the Christian faith. I pray that every rich truth of Jesus’ resurrection will fill your heart and mind every day as you joyfully celebrate this fact: He is risen!
