What can heal a divided America?
We’ve been hearing a lot recently about a divided America. We are a nation that is fractured in every way. History may record this era as a time of political upheaval, social confusion and spiritual anemia. Sometimes I wonder if we have a greater interest in talking about the problem than we do in doing something about it. What can we do?
I suppose there are many ways we can confront the great needs of America and the needs in greater continent of our homeland, North America. But one solution is certain – the gospel can, and will, change everything. The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering (AAEO) is a special offering for North American missions. Let that sink in – North American missions. Our gifts and our prayers support the spread of the gospel in a divided America, and to points beyond these 50 states.
Financial wealth will not unify America. Politicians will not unify America. The media will certainly not unify America. Neither the music industry, sports industry or entertainment industry will bring unity or sanity to our nation. The only hope for an orderly, civilized world is the gospel of Jesus Christ, because the gospel does not focus on changing the world around us, but the heart within us.
This Sunday begins the week of prayer for AAEO. Pray for the missionaries and church planters that are supported by this important offering. Pray for the people they are trying to reach with the gospel. Pray that our Baptist brothers and sisters will give generously so these missionaries will have the resources they need to reach their neighborhood with the gospel. This is how we bring change to a torn nation. Read Milton Hollifield's comments about AAEO here.
