K. Allan Blume BR Editor | News from St. Louis Three of your BR staff are in St. Louis at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting. We’re seeing a lot of North Carolina Baptists here! Attendance is significantly above last year’s 5,400 messengers in Columbus, Ohio. More than 7,200 messengers registered at the St. Louis convention by mid-afternoon on Tuesday. Much of the attendance can be attributed to the election of a new president. You may be hearing that after two ballots for the office of president. the winner is still undetermined. A third ballot on Wednesday morning should finalize the process. Read our report here, and watch for news of the final vote. I launched a discussion on civility in this week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder. Read the story online here. I believe we need to have some serious conversation about the practice of civil discourse. As I mentioned in the editorial, I will share a second installment on the subject in the next edition of the Recorder. In the meantime, please share your ideas with me. Do you believe incivility is on the rise? What kind of evidence would you give to support your views? Let’s talk about it. David Moore is a gifted man who has served you through the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina staff for 38 years. Take a few minutes to read his story and learn from his experience through this article. While his longevity is rare, quality people like Moore are serving you from many roles in N.C. Baptist life. We are blessed to have him and many others leading the way! As always, let us be your source for news and information with a Christian worldview. We are honored to serve you! |
