Ways to assist returning IMB missionaries
Blume: Our missions crisis
Conference to highlight the power of God's Word
K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Pray for IMB personnel We want our readers to know about the difficult decisions that David Platt and other International Mission Board (IMB) leaders were forced to make in response to Southern Baptists’ decreased giving to international missions. As a result, many IMB personnel, both stateside and overseas, are required to make some very hard decisions. I’ve discussed this sad situation with many friends who serve through IMB. I hope you will read (and share with your friends) these stories in this week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder and online. Read the main story here to learn about two IMB families in Ukraine. Click here to read my additional comments in this editorial. Then read these outstanding suggestions by Chuck Lawless, professor of evangelism and missions at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He regularly posts excellent material on his blog, ChuckLawless.com. This guest column lays out some very helpful ways you can minister to missionaries who return to the states. Don’t miss the announcement about the Billy Graham exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh. Your church group should set aside time to make the trip to Raleigh and visit this exhibit. Read the full story here, and take a non-Christian friend with you when you visit the museum. Last Sunday afternoon I was the guest preacher for the Pee Dee Baptist Association’s 200th anniversary celebration. The event was held at Cartledge Creek Baptist Church, a very historic church. Pastor Jason Lutz serves this congregation that traces its founding all the way to 1774 – two years before the birth of our nation’s independence. The association’s moderator, Bryan Blackwell, serves on the board of directors of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSC) and pastors Mount Olive Baptist Church in Rockingham. I am encouraged to serve with great pastors and churches in North Carolina! Please reserve November 1-3 to attend the Pastors’ Conference and the annual meeting of the BSC in Greensboro! I hope to see you there. People need to know! |
