K. Allan Blume BR Editor | Thank you, pastor! If you are a lay leader in your church, please pay attention to this. October is Pastor Appreciation Month. If your church has not yet planned a way to honor your pastor (and associate pastor), now is the time to set some plans in motion. I love working with pastors. Most pastors carry very heavy responsibilities and often struggle under the pressure to serve their church family. They don’t complain – they just remain faithful, steadfast and abounding in the work of the Lord. Pray for your pastor. But go the second mile and honor him for his sacrificial service to you and to Jesus. Last Wednesday evening I was honored to preach the opening service for a month-long series of Wednesday night revival services at Stanleyville First Baptist Church north of Winston-Salem. Pastor Eddie Honeycutt has a different preacher scheduled every Wednesday night throughout the month. The church has held this event in September for several years and found it to be an effective alternative to the traditional Sunday through Wednesday revival service schedule. Sunday morning it was my privilege to preach the two morning services a Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. Pastor Farren Roper began serving this church last Easter Sunday. They have an early contemporary worship service in the Family Life Center and a traditional service in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. On Monday I met with the pastors of the Chowan Baptist Association for lunch and talked with them about the ministry of the Biblical Recorder. This fellowship of 68 churches spreads across 10 counties in the northeastern part of the state. James Harrington, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Moyock, is serving as the interim director of missions. The region has a rich Baptist history. North Carolina’s first Baptist church was organized there in 1727. Shiloh Baptist Church still proclaims the gospel under the leadership of pastor Billy Royal. Next month the Recorder will be reporting that a historical marker has been erected by the State of North Carolina to recognize this important church. I appreciate these pastors and churches allowing me to serve them. It is exciting to see God at work in churches of every size across the state as they impact lostness and make disciples who make disciples.
